MANILA - The National Water Resources Board is considering tapping deep wells and other groundwater sources to augment water supply in Metro Manila as water rationing hits parts of the capital amid the El Niño phenomenon.

NWRB Executive Director Sevillo David said the measure can be implemented in "a few weeks" to address demand in areas experiencing water service interruptions.

Despite the drop in the water level at La Mesa Dam, David assured the public that there's enough water for Metro Manila for the next 2 months because Angat Dam's level is still normal.

However, if rains don't arrive by June or rainfall continues to be below normal, the NWRB said it may reduce water allocation for irrigation and other uses.
