Retired cop Arturo Lascañas maintained that God has forgiven him for his many sins, including killing some 200 people while he was an operative of the vigilante group, Davao Death Squad (DDS).

"I think so, because nagawa ko ang na-promise ko sa kaniya na isang public confession. Hindi lang public confession. Meron pa akong written confession that will incriminate myself," he said in an interview with ANC's "Headstart."

Formerly a Davao policeman, Lascañas claimed the DDS carried out killings on orders of President Rodrigo Duterte, who served as mayor of Davao City for more than two decades.

Duterte, however, gave a blanket denial on all of Lascañas' earlier claims.

“They are all lies. Why should I respond to lies?” Duterte told reporters in an ambush interview in Malacañang.

Lascañas, who believes Duterte will have him killed after his confession, is prepared to never see his wife and children again. He added, it's a possibility his family has also accepted this.

For his loved ones, he has a simple message: "Always pray."
