Pangilinan denies LP set aside P50-M to 'bully' Bong Revilla
If the Liberal Party had P50 million, it will use the funds for air time on television instead of mounting a smear campaign against senatorial candidate Bong Revilla, Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan said Wednesday.
Revilla, a former senator who was jailed for plunder during the presidency of LP stalwart Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, claimed over the weekend that the "yellows" are spending P50 million to "target him.
Yellows and the term "dilawan" are closely associated with the LP, which has used the color in its election campaigns.
"Kung meron kaming P50 million dapat mas marami kaming TV ads. Kung meron kaming ganoong halaga, dun na namin dadalhin, sa TV," Pangilinan told ANC.
(If we had P50 million, we should have had more TV ads. If we had that amount, we will bring it there, in TV.)
Revilla and former senators Jinggoy Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile faced plunder and graft charges during the previous administration over their alleged role in a multi-billion peso fund diversion scam.
Revilla and Estrada are among 15 probable winners in the Senate race if elections were held today, according to a Pulse Asia survey released earlier this month.
"We are the underdogs. Sabi nga kung bukas ang eleksyon, talo -- pero hindi bukas ang eleksyon," Pangilinan said of Otso Diretso's survey performance.
"Maaga pa. Marami pang puwedeng mangyari," he added.
(As they say if the election is tomorrow, we would lose, but the elections won't happen tomorrow. It's still early, a lot can still happen.)
He said debates are important to help voters make informed decisions.
"Mahalaga na nadedebate ang issue para ang pagpasya ng ating mga botante ay base sa impormasyon, hindi base sa fake news, hindi base sa sumasayaw sa entablado," he added.
(It is important to debate on issues so that the decision of our voters are based on information, not fake news or dances on stage.)
