MANILA - There is no plot to unseat House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, a lawmaker said Wednesday following the claim of the House leader that issues on the national budget and ABS-CBN franchise are being used to oust him.

Cayetano's claim is "entirely false," according to Cebu Rep. Raul del Mar.

"That’s the first time I hear about this. There is strictly no--not that I know of--there is no coup to unseat the Speaker. Everybody knows there is an agreement and it is being respected," he told ANC's Early Edition.

Del Mar was referring to the term-sharing deal between Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco, where the former would serve for 15 months followed by the latter for 21 months.

Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez also said "there are no moves to oust" Cayetano.

"We don't want to oust our Speaker, he's been doing good for us.”

Buhay Party-List Rep. Lito Atienza, meanwhile, admitted nothing will happen to the ABS-CBN franchise bills while Cayetano is there.

”It depends on the Speaker’s thinking and intentions. Sa nakikita ko, anuman ang gawin naming [House] members, short of removing him, eh walang mangyayari sapagkat the power to take up or not to take up rests in the hands of the leadership and that's Speaker Peter Cayetano,” he said.

He earlier slammed Cayetano for failing to set a hearing for 11 bills seeking to renew the ABs-CBN franchise despite a call from Malacañang to push through with the hearing.

Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, who's one of the House members pushing for ABS-CBN's franchise renewal through a resolution, said his calls for a hearing aren't connected to any ouster plot against Cayetano.

“I think the position of many members of the House supporting my resolution and urging the leadership to act on the renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise is not connected whatsoever to an ouster move.”

Cayetano has said he wants all sides to be heard when the Lower House starts hearings on the ABS-CBN franchise.

He told reporters: "Ang panawagan sa pag-resign ay ginagawa sa floor... The moment na ayaw na ako ng majority ng mga kongresista, aalis ako."
