JV Ejercito slams tarps tagging him in measles outbreak
Reelectionist Senator JV Ejercito on Thursday tagged as "heartless" those responsible for tarps making fun of the measles outbreak with his photo.
The tarps feature a smiling Ejercito and the phrase "Salamat sa tigdas araw-araw bata todas." Many of these posters were spotted in Manila, the senator said in a tweet.
"Alam naman natin na election season, kasama ang black propaganda at paninira... Pero huwag naman idamay ang mga biktima na mga bata," Ejercito told radio DZMM.
(We know that it's election season, it includes black propaganda and defamation. But don't drag young victims into the issue.)
"Napakawalang puso kung sino man ang nasa likod nitong gumawa ng black propaganda na ito," he added.
(Whoever is behind this black propaganda is heartless.)
Metro Manila and 4 other regions are grappling with a measles outbreak that has killed 136 patients, according to the health department. Children aged 5 below are most vulnerable in the spread of the highly contagious disease, the agency added.
The measles tarps featuring Ejercito cropped up shortly before the signing of the Universal Health Care Law, which he authored, the senator noted.
The measure signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday automatically enrolls all Filipinos to the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP).
The law would also expand PhilHealth coverage, which would include free medical checkups, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic services, Ejercito earlier said.
Pending the release of the implementing rules and regulations, Ejercito said he will consult Health Secretary Francisco Duque on the possibility of partially rolling out some provisions of the measure, like insurance coverage for outpatients.
