MANILA - Senator Antonio Trillanes on Wednesday shared what he and Special Assistant to the President Christopher "Bong" Go talked about at the sidelines of a Senate hearing on the Navy frigate deal.

"Why can’t you not just give the preferred CMS to the Philippine Navy because they’re the ones who will use this and they know that it’s a far superior combat management system? If they need to allocate additional funds, then just do so compared to getting a lemon later on," he recalled telling Duterte's right-hand man.

Go in turn said "he is going to convey it to his principal," Trillanes told ANC's Early Edition.

The chamber on Monday investigated the military's modernization program, including Go's alleged intervention in the procurement of a combat management system for Navy ships worth P15.7 billion.

Trillanes, Duterte's staunch critic, was seen conversing with Go, the President's long-time aide, after the hearing was adjourned. The senator was also seen posing with Go for a selfie.

"We are civilized people and we are mature enough to know that these things are not personal," he said.
