The Philippine National Police on Tuesday received from Japan a donation of equipment that will enhance the safety of its bomb experts.

Japanese ambassador Koji Haneda led the turnover of 6 bomb suits, 6 ballistic shields, 440 bulletproof vest and 440 ballistic helmets to the PNP.

The gear is part of a 500-million yen aid package that aims to support the PNP's counter-terrorism drive, said police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde.

"All these donated equipment will certainly go a long way in enhancing police capability in addressing security issues and threats to public safety," he told reporters.

The latest batch of equipment will be distributed to the Explosive Ordnance Division, he said.
