Van in horrific TPLEX accident speeding: TRB
MAYNILA - The black van that caused a horrific accident on TPLEX on Thursday was speeding to avoid another vehicle that happened to record the crash on its dashcam video, Toll Regulatory Board spokesperson Alberto Suansing said.
"Palagay ko hinagod niya 'yun kasi gusto niyang unahan itong pangalawang sasakyan na kumukuha ng dashcam then pumunta siya sa rightmost lane," Suansing said in a radio DZMM interview.
(I think the driver wanted to drive past the second car, which recorded the accident on its dashcam, then veered to the rightmost lane.)
The incident, he said, involved 3 vehicles - the white SUV, the second vehicle with a dashcam that recorded the crash, and the speeding black van.
Viral video of the incident showed the black van swerving right on the expressway to avoid a row of plastic barriers in front that merged the road into a single lane.
The van rear-ended the white SUV, causing the second vehicle to flip over several times. All its passengers survived the crash.
The whole incident was caught on dashcam video by a third vehicle.
"Biglang sumingit sa kaliwa, humaharurot at 'yun ang bumangga sa SUV. Tinamaan sa kanang likuran yung SUV kaya bumaliktad," Suansing said.
Suansing said they have already asked for an incident report and sent a safety team to assess the length of the transition road.
He maintained that the transition was not abrupt as there are rumble strips to warn drivers of road restrictions.
"Yung barrier kaya nilagay 'yan that's approaching Pozzorubio exit. Isang toll plaza lang ang dadaanan. Yung left lane sinasara 'yun," he said.
(The barrier was placed there to indicate that traffic is approaching the Pozzorubio exit. There's only 1 toll plaza there. The left lane is closed.)
