Large swaths of Mindanao will experience occasionally heavy rains on Wednesday due to a low pressure area, the state weather bureau said.

The weather system was spotted 540 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar del Norte at 3 a.m., PAGASA meteorologist Shelly Ignacio told DZMM.

The LPA may trigger floods or landslides in the southern regions of Caraga and Davao, but is unlikely to intensify into a storm, she said.

The southwest monsoon or amihan, meanwhile, will bring scattered rains in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Bicol and Eastern Visayas, and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon, Ignacio added.

Cloudy skies will prevail in Metro Manila and rest of Luzon and Visayas also due to amihan.

The cold and dry air from China will affect the country until March, the weather forecaster said.

Temperature on Tuesday dropped to 12 degrees Celcius in Baguio and 21.5 degrees Celcius in Manila, PAGASA said.
