The Batangas government is tapping the Philippine Coast Guard to bring relief aid to residents who fled from Taal Volcano's unrest, after a lockdown of 2 towns blocked a delivery route, an official said Thursday.

The delivery of relief goods for evacuees in Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, Tuy, Calaca and Balayan towns needs to pass Taal and Lemery towns, but these imposed a lockdown, noted Lito Castro, head of the province's disaster office.

The provincial government asked PCG to bring relief aid from the Batangas port to Calaca, which would be a "staging area" of the delivery to neighboring towns, he told radio DZMM.

Batangas earlier declared a state of calamity to tap emergency funds and impose a prize freeze on basic goods.

The province has received donations and pledges for help, while neighboring Laguna and Cavite also offered to host evacuees, Castro said.
