The government will not allow a "paralysis" in the operations of the Energy Regulatory Commission amid the 1-year suspension of its 4 commissioners, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Tuesday.

"Hindi po pupuwedeng ma-paralyze ang ERC dahil napakaimportante po ng papel na ginagampanan ng tanggapan na iyan," he told DZMM.

"Sa buwang Enero po ay sa tingin ko, may gagawin ang Presidente d'yan."

(The ERC cannot be paralyzed because it fulfills an important role. The President will do something about that this January.)

ERC chairperson Agnes Devanadera warned of possible blackouts, saying that the suspension of its commissioners "renders the operations of the agency in severe paralysis."

The Ombudsman had suspended and found probable cause to file charges against ERC officials Alfredo Non, Gloria Victoria Yap-Taruc, Josefina Patricia Asirit and Geronimo Sta. Ana for allegedly favoring the Manila Electric Company.

President Rodrigo Duterte may appoint officers-in-charge to replace the 4 commissioners, his chief legal counsel Salvador Panelo earlier said.
