Comelec rules in favor of ousted Imus mayor

Supporters of Homer Saquilayan gathered early morning Monday at the Imus Cathedral to hold a mass after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) overturned the decision of Imus Regional Trial Court declaring his rival candidate Emmanuel Maliksi as the winner of the mayoralty race in the 2010 elections.

Saquilayan was forced to relinquish his post as Imus mayor to Maliksi in December 2011 after his petition for a temporary restraining order was denied by the First Division of Comelec.

The poll body scheduled a hearing on Maliksi’s election protest on Jan. 11, 2012. Maliksi sat as mayor of Imus while the First Division tackled the case.
