A driver is in critical condition after an oil truck caught fire at a gas station along South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) in San Pedro, Laguna on Wednesday evening.

Manila Toll Expressway Systems, Inc. officials said the oil truck was parked near the stockroom of the gas station in Barangay San Antonio when it caught fire at around 8 p.m.

A Mitsubishi L300 van parked beside it also caught fire, leaving its driver, Orlando Callo, in critical condition.

Callo is in critical condition at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center after sustaining second-degree burns in 90 percent of his body.

The truck's driver, meanwhile, was able to run away from the truck before the fire could spread.

Authorities suspect that faulty electrical wiring caused the oil truck to catch fire.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire immediately and prevented the blaze from spreading throughout the gas station.
