A lawyer of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is in critical condition after being shot allegedly by a tricycle driver in Quezon City on Thursday night.

Lawyer Simplicio Abong was inside his pick-up truck when he was shot thrice past 7 p.m. in Barangay Manresa.

Before undergoing operation, Abong was able to tell the police that tricycle driver Jerwin Escalante was the one who shot him.

Abong’s relatives said the group of Escalante had a previous altercation with the victim.

Escalante denied commiting the crime and claimed that he was at the wake of a fellow tricycle driver when the shooting was carried out. – Umagang Kay Ganda, July 27 2012
