MANILA (UPDATE) – A loud explosion occurred at the posh condominium Serendra at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig Friday night.

The explosion, which happened around 8 p.m, tore off a large chunk of concrete from a condominium unit that fell onto vehicles below, one witness said.

Residents of the condominium were forced to evacuate the building due to thick smoke.

Rene Boy Curado, one of the unit owners in the 6th floor of Two Serendra Building B, said he heard the explosion coming from the 5th floor.

He said he also saw one of the 5th floor units damaged by the blast.

The area has been cordoned off by police and rescue personnel, Curado added.

The loud blast triggered panic among mall-goers at nearby Market! Market! after windows of several establishments were damaged because of the blast.

Video footage taken from the scene show shattered glass of establishments and two vehicles crushed under the weight of the large chunk of concrete.

Witnesses in the area also took to micro-blogging site Twitter to post photos of the debris caused by the blast.

As of posting, police have yet to reveal details regarding the explosion.
