MANILA - Some foreign journalists inside the papal plane were surprised by the number of children who welcomed Pope Francis at Villamor Air Base on Thursday.

Speaking to radio DZMM, ABS-CBN correspondent Lynda Jumilla said some of the Vatican media remarked that the number of children performing for the Pope at the airbase was double the number of children who welcomed the Pope in Colombo.

She also said some Filipino journalists shed tears after Pope Francis stepped out of the plane and was greeted by loud cheering.

"Karamihan sa amin naiyak nung paglabas ng Santo Papa sinalubong siya ni Pangulong Aquino at nagsigawan yung mga bata. Parang nakaka-proud. It's a proud moment," she said.

Jumilla said the pope did not immediately come out of the papal plane since he had to follow protocol.
