Last March, the Philippine Air Force signed an P18.9 billion contract for 12 fighter jets to boost the poorly-equipped Philippine military under the AFP modernization program. The FA-50 has a radar warning receiver and night vision imaging system and is capable of carrying 4,500 kilograms of weapons and air to air missiles. Last August, South Korean media reported that China protested against South Korea's plan to donate a 1,200-ton patrol boat and landing vessel to the Philippines.
