The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is raising funds to help defray the cost of Pope Francis' visit to the Philippines in January 2015.

The CBCP said they are open to donations in both cash and kind.

It said the finance committee headed by Palo Archbishop John Do will be coming out with a budget soon to identify the needs for the pope's visit. But security costs will be shouldered by the government.

The CBCP said excess donations will be given to victims of recent calamities.

Meanwhile, Radio Veritas Manila president Fr. Anton Pascual urged the media to highlight the significance of the pope's visit to the public.

In the coming weeks, media briefings have also been lined up to cover details of the pope's arrival including his itinerary, courtesy call on President Aquino, and his much-anticipated public mass.
