WATCH: 'Kim Tiu' remark breaks ice in Senate hearing
MANILA - What happens if you put BIR Commissioner Kim Henares and businessman Antonio Tiu together during a Senate hearing?
The answer: Kim Tiu.
Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano made the remark after accusing Tiu of foot-dragging after failing to produce all the documents needed to prove his ownership of a 150-hectare property in Rosario, Batangas.
Tiu produced an unnotarized agreement with Laureano Gregorio, which he said proves his purchase of the property being linked to Vice President Jejomar Binay.
Tiu, who owns Sunchamp Real Estate Development Corp., said in the previous Senate hearing that he acquired the property from Laureano Gregorio Jr.'s Agrifortuna Inc. for P446 million but does not have its transfer certificate of title (TCT) yet.
Tiu explained he has given a downpayment of P11 million for the purchase of the property. He said he will give the remaining balance, through post-dated checks, only after the TCT is turned over to him.
Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV accused Tiu of lying with a straight face, saying the businessman is saying one thing before the media and doing something different before the Senate.
He said the unnotarized agreement could have been printed just last night.
When Tiu laughed, the senator said: "Don't laugh. Hindi nakakatawa ito."
Cayetano said he will seat Commissioner Henares beside Tiu so that he will only see "Kim Tiu", drawing laughter from the people.
"Imbes na uminit ulo natin, Kim Tiu na lang makikita natin sa hearing na ito," he said.
