WATCH: Osmena grills Purisima over 'White House'
MANILA - Sen. Sergio Osmeña III minced no words during his interrogation of Philippine National Police chief Alan Purisima Tuesday, saying he does not believe the PNP chief's reason for accepting the P11 million "White House" inside Camp Crame.
During the hearing, Osmeña questioned Purisima why he would accept such a building from people close to him and without following the correct procedure.
Purisima explained the donors offered to build the house because the previous official residence was always flooded during rainy season.
He said the PNP did not handle any money during the construction since the structure was just turned over to him.
He, however, said he was never shown the full construction plan of the project nor was he informed of the estimated cost in building it.
''Basta sinabi mo lang sa kanila 'go ahead?' Eh kung doghouse ang itinayo nila? Hindi ba normally, magpapakita sila ng design? I don’t believe you, General,'' Osmeña told Purisima.
Osmeña said that instead of donating the "White House", the donors could have just used the money to improve the health service of the PNP General Hospital.
The senator said the PNP has more pressing needs other than the chief's official residence, and that favors were either made or promised in exchange for the White House.
"Hindi mo sinabi na unahin yung ospital? You did not say: 'Thank you for your kindness. Would you like to spend your money first in improving the hospital?'" Osmeña asked the PNP chief.
Purisima, however, countered that there is already a tertiary hospital in Camp Crame.
"Ang kanilang concentration, your honor, is para po sa bahay po ng Chief PNP dahil po binabaha po pag umuulan," said Purisima.
Answered Osmeñ: "'Napakabait naman nila. They are worried about the house of the PNP chief and not the health of the members of the PNP? Kaya medyo walang credibility ang rason mo eh."
''Itong mga kabibigan mo, they are not doing that out of the goodness their heart. As long as you are in office, alam nila may makukuha sila."
