MANILA, Philippines - TESDA chief Joel Villanueva announced Monday that he will not be running for any position in the 2013 midterm elections, including the Senate.

Villanueva said he met with President Benigno Aquino III last Friday where they both agreed that he will just stay as head of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

The TESDA chief said his low ranking in pre-election surveys was not mentioned during the meeting. He said the President intimated that he might transfer him to another agency.

"The President was very articulate in giving me the present scenario and requesting me to remain in the Cabinet so I can continue helping him in accomplishing reforms and programs," he told ANC.

"I was convinced by the President that I will be more effective if I stay here," he added.
