MANILA - The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines urged the public as well as Church-based groups to stop accepting money from politicians amid the pork barrel scam controversy.

In a pastoral letter, CBCP president Socrates Villegas said politicians are tempted to dig into their pork barrel funds to accommodate requests for assistance.

Villegas said church groups must also be transparent in their fund-raising activities.

Several senators and congressmen have been dragged into the alleged scam involving billions of pesos worth of pork barrel funds that were supposedly diverted to fake organizations.
