MANILA - The United Nationalist Alliance cries foul over the Comelec's decision to slap candidates with a P1,000 per day fine for incorrect statements of contributions and expenditures.

UNA spokesperson JV Bautista argues the fine is illegal. He says when the omissions were committed, the fines were non-existent and imposing them now will violate the rights of the candidates.

Team PNoy spokesman Marikina Rep. Miro Quimbo, on the other hand, agrees with the Comelec's rules on campaign expenses.

But he says the provision that requires candidates and parties to attach receipts should be reviewed.
