MANILA, Philippines - Lead defense counsel Serafin Cuevas on Thursday said there is no evidence to show that Chief Justice Renato Corona personally prepared his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).

Cuevas made the statement when asked why Corona placed the P18 million value of his real estate assets in the column for acquisition costs in his December 2010 SALN instead of the column of fair market value. This, after a private prosecutor pointed out that 2 of Corona's condos were purchased for over P23 million.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson asked Cuevas: "If the intention of the declarant is to get the total fair market value, di ba dapat nasa column ng fair market value at hindi acquisition costs?"

Cuevas answered: "Tama po yun. This is correct if this was prepared personally by him. There is no evidence to that effect."

"If it was merely inadvertence or negligence, I don't know how the impeachment complaint can come in," he added.

He pointed out that in Corona's December 2009 SALN, the column for acquisition costs was blank.
