MANILA - Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin on Monday thanked the public for their "excellent conduct" during the five-day visit of Pope Francis.

Colonel Restituto Padilla Jr., Armed Forces spokesman, said the Philippine government is thankful for the successful outcome of the Pope's pastoral and state visit to the Philippines and thanked everyone who participated in the event.

He also read a statement of Secretary Gazmin about the Pope visit.

It read: "We would like to thank our countrymen, the Filipino people, for their invaluable cooperation and excellent conduct during the pastoral visit of His Holiness, Pope Francis. We truly have every reason to be proud of the fact that we came together as one nation in warmly hosting the beloved Pontiff. Thank you again to everyone who participated in this historic event."

Padilla also expressed his condolences to Kristel Padasas, the young woman who was killed in a tragic scaffolding accident in Tacloban last Saturday.

He said the Armed Forces will be bringing Padasas' remains to Manila later today.
