Catriona Gray is a "total package" whose prime strength is her confidence, veteran fashion designer Renee Salud said Monday, hours before the Filipino-Australian beauty was crowned Miss Universe 2018.
The 24-year-old Gray won the Philippines its fourth Miss Universe crown, after making headlines for her slow-mo twirl and gowns rife with patriotic symbolism.
"Si Catriona, she's a total package. Ang number one niya, she has all the self-confidence dahil napakaswerte ng kandidata nating 'to. As far as I know, compared to other candidates, siya ang pinaka-well supported," said Salud, who has served as a mentor of several beauty queens.
Gray's confidence, he told radio DZMM, may have grown from her earlier stints in the international stage, including Miss World 2016, where she finished in the top 5.
Salud said it also helped that Gray has a huge support network. One renowned shoe designer, he claimed, gave P1 million to help out the beauty queen's Miss Universe campaign.
"E hindi lang siya nag-iisa [na supporter], ang dami nila," he said.
Gray thanked her supporters, saying, "I couldn't have done it without your love, your support and everything that you've ever given to me through the form of comments or kind words. Grabe talaga, this is all for you."
"I can't wait to come home and celebrate with you. Mahal ko kayo, sobra," she added.
