Public satisfaction of President Rodrigo Duterte's performance has remained “very good”, according to the latest survey by the Social Weather Stations.

The results, according to an analyst, is expected especially during the "honeymoon" phase of the administration.

“At this part of the lifetime of an administration, a president is generally riding high and the president continues to ride high,” historian and analysis Manolo Quezon said.

But how does public opinion affect the performance of public officials and the government in general?

According to Quezon, public opinion is a form of “check and balance” for both the government and the public.

“In a government of public opinion, you have presidents explaining their decisions and actions to the public, on the principle that in a system of checks and balances, an informed public will, in turn, apply the brakes to congress, which is filled with people who want to be the next president,” he said. - Mornings @ ANC, 19 December 2016
