The Civil Service Commission supports a proposed law granting additional pay to government employees who work beyond regular office hours, an official said Tuesday.

The Senate approved Monday on third and final reading a bill setting government workers' night differential pay to up to 20 percent of their hourly rate from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The additional pay will compensate the sleep lost by night shift workers like anti-narcotics agents and Customs and Immigration personnel, said CSC Commissioner Aileen Lizada.

"Maganda po ang panukalang ito (this proposal is good) and I hope it will push through in both houses," she told radio DZMM.

Lizada said she was also in favor of a bill seeking civil service eligibility for Filipino medalists in the Southeast Asian Games, which would allow them to work for government sports offices and train younger athletes.

"They gave us honor and recognition. Let government take care of them after the moment they shine as athletes," she said.
