MANILA - The Philippine Stock Exchange said Wednesday it would change its Bell Awards starting this year, as it continues to push for the improvement of corporate governance standards.

From 2017, the annual honors will be held every other year and the number of winners will be trimmed to one per category, said PSE president Ramon Monzon.

"We decided to focus on the best of the best, one overall winner every other year," Monzon told ANC's Market Edge.

Filipino companies are "slowly, but surely getting to the global standards" of corporate governance, he said.

"If the corporation polices itself well, then there will be a lot of confidence on the investor to invest in that company," he said.
