MANILA - The scientist who developed the AI for NASA's Mars rover said residents of remote villages in the Philippines which lack access to healthcare may benefit from recent advances in robotics.

Roboticist Dr. Ayanna Howard said it is possible to deploy healthcare robots in places with no access to doctors or nurses.

Howard, who develops robotic prosthetics, said it is also now possible for people to download schematics for bionic limbs through the open hand project.

But she also added that while there are more commercial humanoid robots coming out, she believes that robots don't necessarily need to look like humans.

"Robots should emulate us, mimic us, but they shouldn't be exactly like us," Howard told ANC's Future Perfect Tech Shorts.
