MANILA - Developing regional airports can help boost tourism in the Philippines, which has been “suffering” due to congestion at its main gateway in the capital, an aviation group said Monday.

Alternative regional airports like the Mactan International Aiport in Cebu should be developed to optimize the country’s tourism potential, said CAPA-Center for Aviation executive chairman Peter Harbison.

“It’s way of the future for the Philippines if you really want to disperse tourism and spur big growth in the industry,” he said.
