Parents needs to carefully watch their children's internet habits to keep them safe from various dangers online, an official of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said on Wednesday.

DICT Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity Allan Cabanlong told ANC's Future Perfect Tech Shorts that children may not yet know the implications of posting their photos or chatting with strangers online.

"Parents need to guide their children on how to use the internet,"
Cabanlong said.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed on Monday a proclamation declaring the annual observance in the Philippines of "Safer Internet Day for Children."

In 2016, the Philippines was tagged by UNICEF as one of the world's top sources of child pornography.
