MANILA - Big Boss Cement Inc, chaired by one of the sons of billionaire Henry Sy Sr, hopes to cash in on the construction boom while helping preserve the environment, a company official said Friday.

"Lahar" is used instead of limestone and since it requires less heat to process, the company hopes to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, said Big Boss Cement president Gilbert Cruz.

Henry Sy Jr., who chairs Big Boss Cement, is invested in the company in a personal capacity. He serves as chairman of SM Prime Holdings, which handles the family's shopping mall and real estate businesses.
