President Rodrigo Duterte's State of the Nation Address (SONA) and the months-long battle for Marawi City were among the most searched topics this year in the Philippines, according to online search engine Google.
Topping the overall top trending searches for the Philippines were topics mostly dealing with music and entertainment, but Filipinos also stayed vigilant on national issues.
Dutere's SONA placed first in the list of searches in the news category, with topics related to the military's operations against the Maute group in Marawi City and the martial law in Mindanao were also among those most searched by Filipinos.
Other topics in the top 10 include the case of Kian delos Santos, the teen killed in a police anti-drug operation, and the cases of bird flu in Central Luzon.
Incidents that happened in the U.S. also made it to the list, such as Hurricane Irma in September; the shooting incident in Las Vegas in October; and the controversial "covfefe" tweet posted on U.S. President Donald Trump's Twitter account.
"Manchester" was also among the terms most searched in the Philippines. A city in the United Kingdom, it is home to the Manchester Arena, where a deadly terror attack occurred during the concert of American singer Ariana Grande in May.
According to Google Philippines, the 2017 Year in Search reflects what topics sparked the interest of Filipinos.
“In a way, the Year in Search offers us a glimpse of what we liked as a people, what issues affected us, what sparked our interest, and everything in between that appealed to our emotions the past year,” said Google Philippines head of communications and public affairs Gail Tan.
