BACOLOD CITY - Twenty-one-year-old John Cyril Claur of the University of Saint La Salle was one of the two top passers in the Chemical Engineering Licensure Examination held this month.
According to Claur, he did not expect to be a top passer in the exams.
While he hoped to land a spot in the top 10, Claur said the examination was difficult.
A scholar who graduated with honors, Claur was a diligent student according to his mom, Helen.
“He took his studies seriously,” Helen said.
Claur, whose father is a retired utility worker of the City Government of Bacolod, hopes to help his family.
His mother relies on their sari-sari store for their daily living expenses.
“Knowing that you’re a scholar, your tuition is being paid, you have grades to maintain there is no reason for you to do stupid stuff. I know they (family) deserve a better life and they put their hopes in you”, Claur said.
Claur is thankful for the support given by his family, friends and mentors at school.
For now, he doesn’t have job offers yet but hopes he will be able to have the best.
Claur, together with Jared Philip Condez of the University of the Philippines Visayas, topped the exam with a rating of 84.60%.
