Two employees of the Mandaue City Hall were fired from their jobs after they were caught playing computer games.
Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing said the two, who were with the City Planning department, were caught on camera playing the addictive game Defense of the Ancients or DOTA while on duty.
"A concerned city hall employee sent a picture to the Chief of Staff last night. We immediately contacted Human Resources to relieve them of their duties," Quisumbing told ABS-CBN News in a phone interview Wednesday.
Quisumbing said the unnamed employees are "definitely not supposed to play DOTA" at work; they were supposed to help solve traffic and improve city planning.
"This [action of firing] is hopefully something that will resonate," Quisumbing added.
The newly-elected Mayor said he will not hesitate to fire more employees, warning those who play on the job to "expect a similar action" from him.
"There are some city employees who come in Saturday and Sunday specifically to play online games. We will no longer tolerate this in the City of Mandaue," he added.
"Basically there are other employees doing this, I hope they see we mean business in the City of Mandaue," he added.
Quisumbing said he also instructed the City Hall's Information Technology Department to install firewalls to prevent employees from playing or downloading games while on duty.
