On what was supposed to be just another regular Monday, the routine of shoppers and tenants of V-Mall in San Juan City was disturbed when shots suddenly rang out in the popular shopping center.

A disgruntled Archie Paray who was recently let go as a security guard of the said mall opened fire on a fellow security guard, injuring him before taking at least 30 people hostage.

The ordeal, which lasted for almost 10 hours, ended when the 31-year-old let the hostages go after one of his demands was met.

Paray then held a short news conference in front of the mall in front of onlookers, members of the media, and San Juan mayor Francis Zamora.

After a few minutes, Paray was arrested by members of the Special Weapons and Tactics team and taken away. A handgun was found concealed in his pocket after the arrest.

Here are some scenes from the ordeal.
