With more than 40,000 people now infected with the novel coronavirus, there is an increasing interest in films like “Contagion,” "Outbreak," "World War Z," "28 Days Later," "12 Monkeys" which explore the possibilities of a global outbreak and the chaos that ensues.

While such popular films are quite entertaining, they're not really accurate in depicting the science of epidemics.

In this article, we look back at some movies that left people terrified with the possibility of a global outbreak, infecting millions of people and changing society as we know it. Are their assertions fact or fiction?
