PBA: Why San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria welcomes the long break

San Miguel Beer head coach Leo Austria was somehow relieved to know his team will be taking more than 2 weeks off after scoring 2 straight wins in the PBA Philippine Cup.

He said this will be a good opportunity for his players to get ample rest before taking on TNT in Iloilo on January 13.

"We'll take this as an opportunity for us to strengthen and recuperate. Kasi wear and tear na rin," Austria said in a report posted on the PBA website.

San Miguel played 58 games last season, the most for any team. The Beermen went the full route to win the Philippine Cup and Commissioner's Cup titles, before reaching the quarterfinals of the Governor’s Cup.

Austria, however, is wary of the long layoff’s possible effect on his players.

San Miguel beat Phoenix in the opener on December 17 before taking another victory against Meralco last Wednesday. A long break could have an adverse effect on their momentum, said Austria.

"Actually, I don't know if it is an advantage to us or to the other teams because we're already having our momentum," he said.

"But the players want to have a vacation. So we'll take it."
