Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is doubtful for Tuesday's season opener against the Brooklyn Nets due to a foot injury, coach Steve Kerr said Saturday.

Green sustained a mild muscle strain in his right foot during a scrimmage earlier this week and did not take part in Saturday's scrimmage.

Kerr said an MRI did not reveal anything significant and he expects Green to return "quickly."

"I know Draymond is disappointed to not practice today," Kerr told reporters. "And maybe not play Tuesday night. But he's also well aware that it's a long season, 72 games. He's going to get right, he's going to be healthy and ready to roll when he is, and at that point, there's a ton of basketball left. We're being smart and Draymond understands the need to be so."

Green did not participate in the Warriors' preseason games after reportedly testing positive for COVID-19.

Green, 30, is a three-time All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year and has won three NBA championships with the Warriors.

He averaged 8.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists in 43 games last season.

Green has career averages of 9.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 576 games (428 starts) since the Warriors selected him in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft.
