MANILA -- A freak injury has rendered Kevin Ferrer unavailable to play even as NorthPort struggles in their PBA Governors Cup finals bid.

The former University of Santo Tomas standout was hurt after an "object fell on his foot," according to website Spin.ph.

“Nabagsakan ng gamit ‘yung paa niya. He tried to play last game pero hindi pa kaya,” NorthPort team manager Bonnie Tan said.

This made their best-of-5 semifinal series against Barangay Ginebra more challenging as NorthPort has lost 4 of their key players to injury.

The Batang Pier already placed Sol Mercado on the injury list due to an ankle sprain, while Robert Bolick is still nursing an ACL injury. Bradwyn Guinto is also unavailable.

Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone admitted this puts his team, which enjoys a 2-1 series lead, at an advantage.

“They are beat up. I look at their lineup, Sol is out, Bolick is out. Imagine how stronger they would be. Bradwyn Guinto is out. Kevin Ferrer is out. They have some real key players that could really add to their depth that are out. I think that’s where our advantage is now,” said Cone.
