PBA: NorthPort stuns Ginebra in semis opener

NorthPort shocked fancied Barangay Ginebra with a 124-90 beatdown in Game 1 of the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup best-of-5 semifinal series at Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.

Michael Qualls registered 38 points and 15 rebounds for upset conscious Batang Pier, the No. 8 seed that ousted No. 1 NLEX in the previous round.

Garvo Lanete came off the bench to score 24 points, scoring 21 in the fourth quarter, and Christian Standhardinger added 16 points and 15 rebounds.

After seeing their 16-point lead nearly wiped out, the Batang Pier fought back in the final period with Lanete shooting lights out.

Justin Brownlee tallied 24 markers, while Stanley Pringle added 21 for Ginebra.

Meanwhile, the victory extended NorthPort’s win streak to 5, including two in a row to eliminate NLEX in the quarterfinals.

Game 2 returns to the Big Dome on Monday.
