MANILA, Philippines – GlobalPort's high-scoring guard Terrence Romeo was named the PBA Player of the Week after his explosive performances helped the Batang Pier extend their winning streak to four games.

Against Meralco last December 9, Romeo scored a season-high 33 points, 12 of which came in the fourth quarter as he outdueled veteran guard Jimmy Alapag to secure a 108-104 win for GlobalPort.

Against Mahindra on December 13, Romeo overcame a horrible shooting performance and came up big in crunch time, draining a three-pointer – his only triple of the game – to tie the contest before scoring the go-ahead lay-up for a 118-116 overtime victory.

"Wala akong masasabi sa bata, kasi noong kailangan ng three points, doon siya pumutok," GlobalPort head coach Pido Jarencio said of Romeo.

"Hindi siya nawalan ng kumpiyansa dahil nai-tabla niya, tapos in transition, nai-shoot pa niya," he added.

With Romeo's help, the Batang Pier have won four straight games and now sit at solo fourth with a 7-3 win-loss slate. They have a twice-to-beat advantage in the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals.

Romeo, last season's most improved player, is currently averaging 23.1 points per game along with 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

He averaged 31 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in the past week, and in the process, beat out teammate Stanley Pringle, San Miguel's Alex Cabagnot, Blackwater's Carlo Lastimosa, and Ginebra's Scottie Thompson for the weekly award.
