TARLAC—Bianca Pagdanganan, Lois Kaye Go and Abegail Arevalo joined forces to beat Malaysia and give the Philippines the women's team gold medal in Southeast Asian Games golf at the Luisita Golf Club here on Sunday.
The national men's team, meanwhile, won the bronze.
Pagdanganan rallied from two holes down to win 3 & 2 over Natasha Oon of Malaysia, while Go halved her match with Ashley Lau to give the host country a 1.5-0.5 victory.
Along with her victory in the individual event, Pagdanganan leaves these Games with two gold medals.
The men, meanwhile, salvaged the bronze after Luis Castro defeated Jonathan Wijono of Indonesia after two playoff holes.
Sean Ramos beat Naraajie Ramadhanputra, 3 & 2, but Aidric Chan bowed to Almay Yagutah, 2 and 1.
Still, the men were able to force sudden death as Castro made a comeback in the last three holes only to fall short.
“Another great for the Philippines! Golf has taken one giant leap the past year and a half. Our golfers have truly matured and taken their games to higher levels,” the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP), through secretary-general Bones Floro, said in a statement.
