MANILA, Philippines - World Boxing Organization (WBO) flyweight champion Brian Viloria knows he will have to fight intelligently when he takes on Giovanni Segura on Sunday at the Ynares Sports Arena.
Viloria considers Segura a friend outside of the ring, but he is determined to defend his championship.
"We can be friends before and after the fight," Viloria told Ronnie Nathanielsz of Boxing Scene. "But when we are in that squared circle, all that goes out of the window and you have to get down to business."
Viloria, who has won championships in three different weight divisions, said the fight against Segura will come down to execution.
"We have to fight smart, intelligently, stay off the ropes against Segura and just go out there and do my best," he said.
He added that he hopes to showcase his punching power on Sunday. "Hopefully on Sunday, it will show because I have a stopping ability. I also have the quickness, the ring intelligence and so much experience, and I try to use everything all at once," Viloria said.
Segura (28 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw, 24 KOs) is number 9 in The RING's pound-for-pound ratings, while Viloria is 3rd in their flyweight rankings.
