MANILA - The Philippines men's and women's obstacle course teams both took the gold and silver medals in their respective races Friday, further increasing the host country's haul in the Southeast Asian Games.
In the women's 5k race, Sandi Abahan took the gold, while her teammate Glorien Merisco bagged silver. Laos' Khamla Sorvimane completed the event's podium.
In the men's category, Filipinos Mervin Guarte and Sherwin Managil snatched the gold and silver, defeating Malaysia's 2-time Spartan Elite champion Mohd Saddam bin Mohd Pittli who settled for bronze.
The host country earlier bagged gold medals in the event's 400-meter team assist and 400-meter relays.
This is the first time obstacle course games were included in the biennial sporting event.
