MANILA—One of the country’s representatives in Starcraft II is assured of at least a silver medal after beating Vietnam 3-2, in a nail-biting finish in the upper bracket finals in Southeast Asian Games esports at FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan on Friday.

Caviar “EnDerr” Acampado continued his unbeaten run by upending Vietnam’s Tran “MeomaikA” Hong Phuc in a best-of-5 matchup.

Acampando was coming off a dominant run in the Group A stages, beating all his opponents in the round robin matches.

“Magandang momentum iyon going into the finals, and hopefully sa finals [masungkit natin],” he said, acknowledging that he had a tough time against Tran, who like him plays Zerg.

“May part na naging kulang ’yung scouting ko so naging kulang sa aspect na iyon, and since mirror matchup siya, small mistakes lang talaga, puwedeng matalo ka na.”

Justin “Nuks” Santos, however, was booted by Singapore’s Thomas "Blysk" Kopankiewicz in the lower bracket playoffs.

Acampando will face the winner of the lower bracket finals to be determined this afternoon.

The grand finals will be held Monday, Dec. 10.
