MANILA - University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons Paul Desiderio penned a heartwarming message for everyone who showed their support for their team.

In a post on his social media accounts, Desiderio thanked the management, coaches, his teammates and the UP community for their support throughout his 6-year stint with the Fighting Maroons.

"Marami tayong pagsubok. Aminin man natin o hindi, lagi tayo dating inaasar ng ibang school tungkol sa basketball. I used to sit on the bench and watch my season go by winless. Loss after loss," he wrote.

"Pero nangangarap parin ako noon na sa last game ko sa UP, mapupuno yung venue ng maroon. Ngayong araw, natupad narin pangarap ko. Wala akong hinihingi pang iba sa pagtatapos ng college basketball career ko. My biggest trophy was not the championship, it was seeing this community as one. It’s not 16 strong anymore, it’s the whole community strong. #UPStrong," Desiderio added.

He said farewell to the team on the finals stage and with a championship within his reach.

"This is your captain, Paul Desiderio, signing off," Desiderio wrote.

Aside from Desiderio, Diego Dario, Jarrell Lim, Gelo Vito and JJ Española, also played their final game as a Fighting Maroon Wednesday.
