CLARK, Pampanga -- The Philippine Blu Boys got a measure of revenge over Singapore, blanking the visitors, 8-0, to sweep the eliminations in the 30th Southeast Asian Games men’s softball competition here at The Villages.
The Blu Boys started early against the Singaporeans, cruising to a 4-0 lead in the first inning before finishing the assault with 4 more points in the fourth inning.
“Discipline in the strike zone. Kasi ‘yung mga unang games pumapalo kami sa masamang bola,” said playing coach Apolonio Rosales. “Nag-click naman dito, ang result nun ‘yung mga players natin nasa base lagi.”
Rosales also credited pitchers Rey Aliling and Regan Parco for shutting out the Singaporeans.
“Yung speed at control nila sa bola, 100 percent,” he said.
With the victory, the Philippines racked its third straight win after victories over Thailand (11-0) and Indonesia (7-3).
It was a sweet victory for the Blu Boys as they avenged their 4-3 defeat to Singapore in the Men’s Softball World Championship this year.
“In the last Worlds, tinalo nila taya kaya down na down kami,” said Rosales.
“Half of the team 'yung lumaban sa Worlds eh. Ang motivation ko sa kanila dapat always ready at ang fighting spirit laging nariyan,” said Rosales.
