MANILA - Some SEA Games tennis matches were suspended Tuesday morning as rains brought by typhoon Tisoy dampened the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center's open courts.
A covered training court will be used for some of the tennis matches, but other games might need to be rescheduled, said tennis competition manager Chris Cuarto, noting that the new time table has yet to be finalized.
"Pag basa ang court madulas. In international rules they don't allow palaruin ang hard court kasi it will be very dangerous to the players," he said.
Officials are on a wait and see mode if weather will improve before noon, Cuarto said.
"As of now, we still have to see if kakayanin na maging okay 'yung courts. If not, we have to reschedule it," he said.
Other SEA Games events that were postponed due to typhoon Tisoy's heavy rains and strong winds include:
- Modern pentathlon (moved from Dec. 4 to 7 to Dec. 5 to 7)
- Traditional boat race (moved from Dec. 7 to 8 to Dec. 6 to 8)
- Canoe/Kayak (moved from Dec. 3 to 4, to Dec. 6 to 8)
- Rowing (to start on Dec. 6)
Tisoy, which is expected to bring violent winds and intense rains over parts of Luzon, is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday.
